Child Prodigy

Luis Martinez, Writer

Prodigy, meaning a set of perplexing but astonishing abilities some people have, have been most commonly found in children. But there’s one specific ability these children have, being an art prodigy. Meaning they have exceptionally amazing skills in art, a skill that no hard work could get to, unless it’s truly wanted and worked for. Keep in mind, I also feel as if people just ignore the work people do, and I’d like to mention how amazing their works of art are because they really do catch your eye.

Waris Kareem, a boy from Nigeria who’s just the age of eleven has been able to draw in hyperrealism. To explain, realism is to represent the a subject’s matter truthfully, but hyperrealism is a sketch being extremely realistic in even the smallest of details. It’s fair to say, hyperrealism is much more advanced because of the patience needed to get the result you want. Waris Kareem has been interviewed, and during this interview, Waris shows something with incredible detail: he made a drawing of a boy eating food while sweating. He then says “The sweat on it symbolizes hard work and struggling. And the spoon symbolizes food. Everybody in my society has little now.”

Though Waris Kareem is an amazing artist, there are others who may have a better way of using the skill or just have a better view of art. Waris isn’t the only one with such an ability. Akiane Kramarik is also known for once being a child prodigy. Though she may be 24 now, I still consider her an amazing artist. She started doing realism by the age of 4 and was interviewed by many. She seemed to improve really fast with her drawing ability, or rather she learned how to use it. And after another 2 years she painted amazing portraits. She is best known for her painting called Prince of Peace, which was painted when she was 8. She is a self taught painter, claiming Jesus spoke to her at the age of four and encouraged her to draw the visions she saw. She is now a poet and a well known artist.

Dusan Krtolica, another prodigy, is a boy who draws with only his memory. Best known for not only drawing animals, but animals with incredible detail. It is said he used five hundred pieces of paper in just a week. Though it may be hard to believe, he is seen with much of his artwork. And after searching up more about him, I found out he’s been in six solo exhibitions. Dusan is able to draw many animals with impeccable detail, and could probably draw your favorite animals too. There’s multiple videos of him showcasing his skill and I noticed how little time it took him to draw what many can’t, he makes it look easy to many watching, I hope I could do the same someday.

He is still young, yet he is able to draw to at an unimaginable level many people crave. With the talent he’s born with, I’m sure he’ll have a good future.
